I’ll be doing a demo of the new events calendar after the Leadership Team meeting. Something new I’ve been working with is Google Calendars. With Google Calendar we can have multiple shared calendars (one for each library). We’d us it to post all our public programs. Best of all, the calendars can be shared, and staff with permissions can collaborate in adding events to their own calendars. Google Calendars allows multiple calendars to be shown in the same view. The default view I link to from the new website is called the agenda view. This displays all the events in chronological order (starting with today) and the events are color coded by library. You can select or deselect libraries to show only your events or show events for the entire system. You can also toggle between a monthly view which will display all the events side by side, or a weekly view. Clicking the event will open it up and display more information such as the time it takes place and a short description. Google Calendar also lets you send email invitations about an event without having to share your entire calendar. Recipients can post responses (this is great if you have a program where people need to make reservations) and we can add reminder buttons on the website by using s HTML snippet in the post. If you are curious about how to add events I’ve posted instructions on the documentation page of this blog.
